So basing upon the stats available, if the U.S. embassy issues a warning to its citizens visiting Mumbai to “follow common sense precautions” and be aware of open manholes, how do we respond?
We see the need for the warning, and clean up good. Or, the easier emo-sh (hence forth emo-sh refers to emotional sh*t, the stuff we are good at) way, how dare they ridicule our municipality? And as the article I referred to quotes Jairaj Pathak – Mumbai’s municipal commisioner,
Phatak distributed copies of news reports about recent flooding in the American Midwest during a Tuesday news conference “to show it can happen anywhere,” he said.
I’ll tell you what can happen and what cannot happen, no corporation is perfect and with a crumbling infrastructure burdened by an explosive population, things will go wrong without proper management. The solution to that is NOT about taking a dig at the flooding in American Midwest, I haven’t heard of Americans falling into open manholes and kids falling into open borewells ever. But, when the U.S. embassy warns its citizens to be careful, the only thing you can do is to prove them wrong by WORKING on the flaws, not DENYING their existence.

In an unrelated development, Raj Thakre’s “workers” hit up on an idea to steal manhole covers that would injure North Indian workers walking on the roads, upon unreasonably questioning them that it wasn’t moral/legal and even Mumbaikars could get injured, their spokesmen said that it was in fact moral and whatever Raj does is legal and that Mumbaikars could take care of themselves.
