No, no nothing to do with Page 3 parties…the new Spanish cabinet where a majority are women, including the 7-month pregnant defense minister. A feminist perspective of how it would be if the world was run by women, well few feminist points from the article,
We’d be less macho, and far more stylish - A feminist author.
Do you think it stops there? She also has an explanation:
It would be better-dressed, for one thing. The Spanish and Catalan women in Zapatero’s cabinet are glamorous and modern, unlike the men at G8 summits.
This isn’t a trivial point: conservative taste in clothes is often a sign of conservative social attitudes.
‘Say hello to egg-freezing, and female orgasms’ says Catherine Townsend
This author, I believe is really pissed off to know that there’s no female equivalent (?) of “viagra” and recommends scientists to start researching for one. But that was only the last point of loads of bullcrap -
but I do think we’d choose our wars a bit more carefully. Never mind, Hillary was an ardent supporter of the war, she is probably not a feminists’ favorite (yet).
There’d be half as many pointless meetings’ says Janet Street-Porter
Oh wait, I thought the meeting times would actually DOUBLE. See, I could make a pointless statement without a backup just because I’m an insomniac, with a keyboard and without a girl. Heck, who knows maybe you get PAID to make such pointless statements, and you are without a guy by your side.
….All female prisoners (except those serving life for violent crimes) would be released to serve their sentences working in the community. Juvenile offenders would work in old people’s homes and hospitals, helping to feed and clothe those less fortunate than themselves. Basic cookery would be taught from the age of seven. All public bodies, hospital boards and police authorities would be forced to appoint the correct proportion of women to their governing bodies. Any organisation receiving public funding, from museums to sports facilities, would have to do the same.
Now, this is what scares me, would you ever believe a male politician saying the same thing about prisoners in general or male convicts in particular? Is it because women lack the strength and motive to commit a crime again, If I agree to just the first part I’m a chauvinistic pig, and if you agree just to the second part. You are ‘a’ Renuka chaudary.
….Broadcasters’ boards would have to be 50 per cent female to retain franchises. We’d stop meddling in other people’s affairs overseas, recall troops from Iraq and Afghanistan, and declare ourselves a nuclear-free peace zone. The minimum wage would be raised – it’s mostly women that have to try to live on it.
Maybe 5 years ago, it would have been a good idea, and that too just for Iraq, not for Afghanistan. Have you ever thought about what would happen with an immediate recall of the troops from these countries, the most vulnerable population WILL BE women and children of Iraq and Afghanistan. And have you feminists EVER fought for 50% reservations in the army. Does someone think it’s practical to have a 50-50 ratio in the army? Why then elsewhere? why have reservations, in a professional society, based on gender at all? Upto college level is usually enough to empower any weaker section of the society.
It does not mean that sexism does not exist, but feminism is not an answer to chauvinism, it might actually be a catalyst for more chauvinism driving normal people, towards the worser end of the sexism scale.
Just to explain a personal view, maybe because I’m in the health care industry, most of my bosses are/have been female. Never felt any different about it, the immediate work force is in the ratio of 53(men):46(women), without any reservations, black, white and brown people, just working together (we had a yellow too, sometime back). Four of my fave5 T-Mobile unlimited calling will be to women, my best friend, who I owe a lot to and a colleague-friend, are women, my regular (ha-ha)blog readers are primarily 2-3 women and occasionally one guy . So Women do rule my world in a way, and I have no doubts that I’ll get married to a woman
So please, spare me, women empowerment is necessary, more so in developing countries, including middle east, but please don’t spout nonsense under the garb of feminism, it sounds like Nancy Grace on CNN reporting a usually perfectly case of injustice but in such a way, that you stop feeling sorry for the victim, and start feeling sorry for Nancy Grace and her histrionics. And when she goes overboard, you kinda regret that Nancy Grace ever chose a career in media. Just to piss you guys off, here’s the link…
And talking of some other crappy authors who believe too much in their journalistic aptitude, there’s the ever wonderful, irritatingly delightful, apostle of stupidity, writer for page 3 piece of crappy writing under the garb of editorials, creator of swaabhimaan - SHOBHA DE (Or shobaaa ddde, in whatever way numerology works for you), but that’s an entirely different post.
Thank god, at least these women don’t rule the world.
